Coordinate the colours around your door

A door is never on its own. There’s the wall around it, the frame, perhaps a skirting board, radiator or window in the same room — and the handle you touch every day. When one of these elements has a specific shade, the others need to match, or the difference catches the eye. That’s exactly what a handle painted to order makes possible: if you have a colour in mind, the handle can have it too, in the same code.

The most common situation is an existing door, window or shutter in its original RAL colour — perhaps a lacquered door or a powder-coated window — for which no standard handle finish is quite right. A standard “white” or “grey” can cover dozens of shades: place two similar colours ten centimetres apart and you can see the difference. The RAL code removes that uncertainty.

Over 80 RAL colours available

The available palette covers the main colours in the RAL Classic range:

  • Whites and blacks: pure white RAL 9010, traffic white RAL 9016, jet black RAL 9005;
  • Greys: the largest group, with around thirty shades, including anthracite grey RAL 7016, light grey RAL 7035 and black grey RAL 7021;
  • Beiges, ivories and yellows: beige RAL 1001, oyster white RAL 1013, light ivory RAL 1015;
  • Browns: around a dozen shades, including chocolate brown RAL 8017;
  • Blues, greens, reds and oranges: grey blue RAL 5008, bottle green RAL 6007, flame red RAL 3000.

Matt, satin or gloss

These colours come in a matt or satin finish by default, which pairs best with painted doors and windows. About fifteen are also available in gloss — mainly greys, whites and blacks, including black RAL 9005, traffic white RAL 9016 and anthracite grey RAL 7016. Gloss reflects more light and shows fingerprints a little more readily; it makes sense when the door itself has a gloss finish. Specify gloss alongside your code if that’s the finish you want. RAL codes in brief

RAL is the standard colour system in Europe. Each shade has a four-digit number that identifies the same colour across all manufacturers using the system. This makes it possible to match items bought separately, sometimes years apart: simply find the code on the paint tin, your joiner’s quote or the window label, then order the handle in the same code.

How to order your handle in the right colour

  1. Choose your model from this category and find your shade on the colour chart in its product listing.
  2. Add the handle to your basket.
  3. Enter the RAL code in your order comments, specifying “matt” or “gloss”: this is what prompts us to paint the handle.

Unsure about a code, can’t find your shade in the list, or need to match several fittings? Write to us before ordering and tell us the code you’re looking for.

Oven-cured powder coating

The colour is not applied as a liquid. The handle is coated with powder paint, then placed in an oven, where the powder melts and cures at a high temperature. The resulting coating is even, with no runs or touch-up marks, and far more resistant to knocks and rubbing than paint applied without heat — important for a fitting handled several times a day. It’s the same process used for powder-coated aluminium windows and doors, helping the colours stay matched over time.

Lead time: two to three weeks

These models are not kept in stock in RAL colours: painting begins after you place your order. Allow two to three weeks before dispatch, and factor this in if your project has a deadline. If you need a handle straight away, the most common finishes are available immediately: black door handles, white door handles, anthracite grey door handles and chrome door handles. You can also browse all our handle colours or our selection of colourful door handles already in stock.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to paint the handle myself?

No. Despite the category name, your handle arrives already painted in the code you specified. There’s no sanding, priming or drying to do: fit it just like any other handle.

Can I get any RAL colour?

Choose from the available palette of more than eighty RAL Classic colours. If your code isn’t listed, write to us with the code: depending on the shade, we may still be able to produce it.

Will the colour last?

The coating is oven-cured powder paint, not a surface lacquer. It withstands routine cleaning with soapy water. Avoid abrasive products and solvents, however, as they can damage any painted finish.
