A handle on a square rose brings straight lines where a round rose softens the look. It suits contemporary interiors, doors with crisp mouldings and schemes where the hardware complements the architecture rather than blending into it. Its straight edge does, however, demand precise drilling: unlike with a round rose, a slightly off-centre spindle will show.
Which square rose is right for your door?
Thickness changes the whole look. A 3 mm rose sits almost flush with the door and blends in; at 7 to 10 mm, it stands proud and makes its presence felt. As for materials, brass retains its finish over time, zamak offers the best balance of strength and price, and stainless steel suits damp rooms. Matt black, chrome, gold and matt gold finishes cover most projects.
Don’t forget the matching lock rose
A handle on a rose can be paired with a second rose below it for the locking mechanism: I key for a cylinder, L key for a bedroom key, or privacy for toilets and bathrooms. Choose the same brand and finish as the handle so the colour and dimensions match.
