The 287 iron door handle has a distinctive, old-fashioned style. This collection suits rustic interiors and evokes a sense of nostalgia.

This handle is cast from solid iron in a sand mould, then finished by hand in Belgium. It is shown here in polished iron: natural iron, simply polished and protected by a varnish to retain the material’s authentic, warm appearance. It is also available in black and waxed rust finishes.

Dauby, a Belgian foundry

Dauby makes its handles to order in Belgium in two collections. Création du Fer, which includes this model, is made entirely from solid iron: each piece is cast in a sand mould and then finished by hand. It comes in three finishes: polished iron, black (aged iron) and waxed rust. Inspired by the latches of old farmhouses, these authentic designs suit both characterful homes and more contemporary interiors where wood takes centre stage. PURE, the other collection, uses the same traditional techniques to create clean lines inspired by the Bauhaus, in white bronze, raw bronze, raw metal or aged iron.

Care

The iron finishes are lacquered or varnished. Polished iron is protected by a varnish and is intended for indoor use: it is the only Dauby finish that is not suitable outdoors. If the varnish wears away, it can be renewed with a clear matt varnish. No coating is completely scratch-resistant: rings, sharp objects and everyday use can leave marks, adding to the character of the piece. If the black lacquer is damaged, it can be touched up with RAL 9005. The waxed rust finish is deliberately rough and grainy: do not polish it; care for it with beeswax or petroleum jelly. Never use an abrasive cleaner.
