Iron privacy lock for a bathroom or toilet

This rose houses the privacy lock, which locks the door from the inside. On the outside, a slot allows it to be unlocked if needed: an essential safety feature for a bathroom or toilet door. It is forged from iron, the material used in Dauby’s CDF – Créations du Fer collection. It is fitted as a pair: one rose on each side of the door.

Compatibility

Dauby, a Belgian foundry

Dauby makes its handles to order in Belgium, across two collections. Création du Fer, which includes this model, is made entirely from solid iron: each piece is cast in a sand mould and then finished by hand. It comes in three finishes: polished iron, black (aged iron) and waxed rust. Inspired by the latches of old farmhouses, its authentic designs suit both character homes and more contemporary interiors where wood takes centre stage. PURE, the other collection, uses the same traditional techniques to create clean lines inspired by the Bauhaus, in white bronze, raw bronze, raw metal or aged iron.

Care

The iron finishes are lacquered or varnished. No coating is completely scratch-resistant: a ring, a sharp object or everyday use will leave its mark – and that is what gives the piece its character. If the black lacquer is damaged, it can be touched up with RAL 9005. The waxed rust finish is deliberately rough and grainy: it should not be polished, but cared for with beeswax or petroleum jelly. Never use an abrasive cleaner.
