Dauby, a Belgian foundry

Dauby makes its handles to order in Belgium across two collections. Création du Fer, which includes this model, is made entirely from solid iron: each piece is cast in a sand mould and then finished by hand in one of three finishes: polished iron, black (aged iron) or waxed rust. Inspired by the latches of old farmhouses, its authentic designs suit both characterful homes and more contemporary, wood-led interiors. PURE, the other collection, uses these traditional techniques to create clean lines inspired by the Bauhaus, in white bronze, raw bronze, raw metal or aged iron.

Care

Dauby’s bronze is a living material: its colour deepens over time, while areas touched by hand polish themselves naturally. The manufacturer calls this a living finish and recommends letting it develop – no maintenance is required. Only the black finish is made of lacquered iron: if the lacquer is damaged, it can be touched up with RAL 9005. To restore the original shine of a bronze finish, simply use a soft cloth and copper or silver polish. Never use abrasive cleaners.
