Recognised for his distinctive design of the Paris Métro entrances, Guimard created this knob model around 1897. The unique, flowing shape of the knob is the result of an unprecedented creative process: Guimard modelled it by pressing a lump of clay in his left hand, giving it its general form, then in his right hand, pressing his thumb and index finger to refine the design.
