The grub screw (with a conical tip and an Allen key socket) is used when fitting handles to a door. It secures them precisely and holds the handle in place on the square spindle that passes through the door. As the screw is tightened, it presses against the spindle, securing the handle to it. This grub screw has a long service life because it is often made of brass, a material resistant to mechanical damage. The "head" may also be made of galvanised steel.
