Dauby, a Belgian foundry

Dauby makes its handles to order in Belgium across two collections. Création du Fer, which includes this model, is made entirely from solid iron: each piece is cast in a sand mould and then finished by hand in one of three finishes: polished iron, black (aged iron) or waxed rust. Inspired by the latches of old farmhouses, its authentic designs suit both characterful homes and more contemporary interiors where wood takes centre stage. PURE, the other collection, uses the same traditional techniques to create clean lines inspired by the Bauhaus, in white bronze, raw bronze, raw metal or aged iron.

Care

The iron finishes are lacquered or varnished. No coating is completely scratch-resistant: a ring, a sharp object or everyday use can leave its mark – all part of the piece’s character. If the black lacquer is damaged, it can be touched up in RAL 9005. The waxed rust finish is deliberately rough and grainy: it should not be polished, but cared for with beeswax or petroleum jelly. Never use an abrasive cleaner.
