Founded in 1976, TUPAI - Fábrica de Acessórios Industriais, S.A. is headquartered and manufactures at Águeda, in the district of Aveiro, Portugal. It is there that the company designs and develops its collections of door handles, a speciality that has earned it a solid reputation in the sector. The brand operates across two areas: a catalogue sold under its own name and bespoke technical components developed to its clients' specifications.
Four materials worked entirely in-house
TUPAI works with four materials: brass, zamak (zinc alloy), aluminium, and stainless steel. All processes are handled in-house, from forging to injection moulding, from cold and laser cutting to machining, from robotic or manual polishing to galvanic treatment. Each stage is controlled to maintain the same level of finish from one production run to the next.
Over 150 finishes and a wide range of styles
These processes yield over 150 colours and finishes, including the antibacterial and anti-allergenic Protection launched in 2020. The catalogue covers both modern, pared-back designs and classic, timeless lines as well as more original styles. Ranges are classified by material, but several span more than one: the 5S line is available in brass, zamak and stainless steel, while Anux is in aluminium and Privé in zamak.
The 5S line in detail
The 5S is built around a 5 mm thick rose, spring-mounted with concealed fixings, available in a round version (5S) or square version (5SQ). The technical datasheet for reference 4200/200 5S specifies a click-system mechanism and an 8 x 90 mm spindle. This slim thickness accounts for the range's discreet profile.
Certifications and environmental commitment
TUPAI holds ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certifications, a fire-door certification and the PME Líder label. The brand states that it switched to renewable energy in July 2021. It also highlights practices that limit waste and the use of recyclable materials wherever possible.
