The iron door handle BECDF has an original, old-fashioned style. This collection suits rustic interiors and evokes a sense of nostalgia.

This handle is cast from solid iron in a sand mould, then finished by hand in Belgium. Shown here in polished iron, it is made from natural iron that is simply polished and protected with varnish, preserving the material’s authentic, warm appearance. It is also available in black and waxed rust finishes.

Dauby, a Belgian foundry

Dauby makes its handles to order in Belgium, across two collections. Création du Fer, to which this model belongs, is made entirely of solid iron: each piece is cast in a sand mould and then finished by hand in one of three finishes: polished iron, black (aged iron) or waxed rust. Inspired by the latches of old farmhouses, its authentic designs suit characterful homes as well as more contemporary interiors where wood features prominently. PURE, the other collection, uses the same traditional techniques to create clean, Bauhaus-inspired lines in white bronze, raw bronze, raw metal or aged iron.

Care

The iron finishes are lacquered or varnished. Polished iron is protected by varnish and is intended for indoor use only: it is the only Dauby finish unsuitable for outdoor use. If the varnish wears away, it can be renewed with a clear matt varnish. No coating is completely scratch-resistant: rings, sharp objects and everyday use will leave their marks, giving each piece its character. If the black lacquer is damaged, it can be touched up in RAL 9005. The waxed rust finish is deliberately rough and grainy: it cannot be polished and should be maintained with beeswax or petroleum jelly. Never use an abrasive cleaner.
