The essentials

Jeanne door lever handle, modern design on a round rose, in solid brass, made in France. Sold individually, supplied with its square spindle, screws, and Allen key. Designed for rim locks, it can also be fitted to a mortice lock with the appropriate roses.

The round rose forms a solid disc at the base of the lever: it softens the junction with the door and generously covers the marks left by a previous fitting. The design is modern and clean, with no added ornamentation; it is the brass surface itself, and its polish, that carry the effect. At 130 mm, the Jeanne sits among the longer lever handles: the hand rests on it fully and the action remains positive, even on a stiff lock.

Rim lock or mortice lock?

This is what determines your order. Look at your door: is the lock case fitted onto the wood, clearly visible, or invisible because it's set into the thickness?

The rim lock

The metal case is screwed onto the face of the door. It's visible and forms part of the décor. This is the fitting method used in older homes, and the original intended use for this lever handle.

On that side, it mounts directly onto the case, which already houses the entire mechanism: nothing else is needed. On the other side, it passes through bare wood. You can add a rose there — not for functional reasons, but to cover the marks of a previous drilling.

In that case, request the 6 mm spindle: it's the standard for rim locks, and it isn't sent by default. A note in your order comments is all it takes.

The mortice lock, also known as a "sash" lock

The case is set into the thickness of the door leaf: only the faceplate is visible, on the edge of the door. This is the fitting method for modern doors, and the 7 mm spindle supplied as standard suits it perfectly.

On each face, three elements are then required: the lever handle, its rose, and a function rose chosen according to the lock — cylinder key, bedroom key, or privacy turn for a bathroom or toilet.

Choosing the finish

One thing to know before choosing a gold finish: bare brass tarnishes in the air within a few months. Our gold finishes are lacquered, which prevents this — the lever handle retains the shine it had on the day it was fitted.

• Gold tones — Polished gold, also known as bright gold: the bold shine of brass, protected by its lacquer. Matt gold, or satin gold: the same warmth, without the sheen.
• Light greys — Polished chrome, the most reflective. Satin nickel, also known as brushed nickel, and Lacquered nickel: more subdued, and they don't show fingerprints.
• Deep tones — Bronze, a darkened brass with warm undertones. Copper, more rose-tinted. Brushed chrome, aged grey. Anthracite, also known as matt slate, almost black, for a striking contrast on a light-coloured door.

The difference between satin nickel and brushed chrome is hard to tell in a photo. If you're hesitating between two similar shades, write to us.
