Demenico Cone Urbi et Orbi, glass door knob

Glass and concrete make a good pairing: the transparency of one brings out the texture of the other. This cone-shaped Demenico knob adds a mineral accent to a shower or glass door, a world away from the usual chrome knobs.

It comes from Urbi et Orbi in Athens, whose studio designed it in 2018 after the rocks on Demenico beach, on the Mani coast: black stones polished by the sea beneath white foam.

Two sizes

• S — Ø 6 cm: shower door, glass panel
• L — Ø 10 cm: large glass door, workshop door

Terrazzo: concrete with exposed aggregates

The knob is cast in terrazzo: concrete coloured throughout, with white or black aggregates embedded in it and revealed at the surface. Each piece has its own pattern. Small air holes on the surface are a characteristic of concrete, not a defect.

Care

In a shower, wipe away limescale with lukewarm water and a neutral detergent. Do not use acidic limescale removers, alkaline products, solvents or chlorine: they damage concrete.
