Marine Urbi et Orbi, concrete furniture knob and wall hook

The Marine is Urbi et Orbi’s second knob, designed in 2014 by the company’s studio in Athens. After the success of the Pomolo, the idea was to retain its breakwater silhouette while reducing its bulk: solid concrete becomes a flat piece that feels smooth beneath the fingers and sits comfortably in the hand.

Screwed onto a cupboard, it is a furniture knob; fixed to a bathroom or hallway wall, it becomes an understated wall hook.

Three sizes

• S — 46 × 44 mm, 12 mm thick, 40 g, M4 thread: drawers, small cupboards
• M — 59 × 54 mm, 16 mm thick, 90 g, M4 thread: cupboard doors or use as a wall hook
• L — 81 × 75 mm, thickness 22 mm, 230 g, M4 thread for furniture; M8 available on request for a door (rod not supplied)

Two greys, coloured throughout

The Marine comes in light grey and dark grey. The colour runs through the concrete rather than sitting on the surface: each piece has its own nuances, with slight variations from one knob to the next. Small air holes on the surface are a characteristic of concrete, not a defect.

Care

Use a soft cloth, lukewarm water and a neutral detergent. Avoid acids, alkaline products, solvents and chlorine. Concrete is hard, but it can break on impact, like ceramic.
