The essentials

Eugénie door handle lever, faceted, in solid brass, made in France. Sold individually, supplied with its square spindle, screws and Allen key. Designed for rim locks, it can also be fitted to a mortice lock with the matching escutcheons.

The body is faceted: flat planes meet in sharp edges, where most lever handles have a rounded profile. Light catches it in defined sections rather than graduating smoothly across the surface, and each facet changes tone depending on the angle from which you look at it. At 102 mm, the lever stays short: a compact piece that fills the hand without protruding beyond the door frame. Under the fingers, the flat faces give a more secure grip than a polished cylinder.

Rim lock or mortice lock?

This is what determines your order. Look at your door: is the lock case fitted on top of the wood, clearly visible, or is it hidden because it is set into the thickness?

The rim lock

The metal case is screwed onto the face of the door. It is visible and forms part of the décor. This is the traditional fitting for older homes, and the original intended use for this lever handle.

On that side, it fits directly onto the case, which already carries the full mechanism: nothing else is required. On the other side, it passes through bare wood. You may add an escutcheon there — not for functional reasons, but to cover marks left by an old drilling.

In that case, request the 6 mm spindle: it is the standard for rim locks and is not included by default. A note in the order comments is all it takes.

The mortice lock, also known as a "sash" lock

The case is set into the thickness of the door leaf: only the faceplate is visible, on the edge of the door. This is the standard fitting for modern doors, and the 7 mm spindle supplied as standard suits it perfectly.

On each face, three elements are then needed: the lever handle, its escutcheon, and a functional escutcheon chosen to match the lock — cylinder keyhole, bedroom key, or a privacy turn for a bathroom or toilet.

Choosing a finish

One thing to know before choosing a gold finish: bare brass tarnishes in the air within a few months. Our gold finishes are lacquered, which prevents this — the lever handle keeps the same shine it had on the day it was fitted.

• The golds — Polished gold, also called bright gold: the clear brilliance of brass, protected by its lacquer. Matt gold, or satin gold: the same warmth, without the shine.
• The light greys — Polished chrome, the most reflective. Satin nickel, also known as brushed nickel, and Lacquered nickel: more muted, and they do not show fingerprints.
• The deep tones — Bronze, a darkened brass with warm reflections. Copper, more pinkish. Brushed chrome, aged grey. Anthracite, also called matt slate, almost black, for a striking contrast on a light-coloured door.

The difference between satin nickel and brushed chrome is hard to tell in photos. If you are unsure between two similar shades, drop us a message.

Where it comes from

DCG manufactures in the Vimeu region of Picardy, the historic heartland of French hardware manufacturing: a family business since 1989. Each piece is gravity-cast in a sand mould, silver-brazed, then hand-polished.
