Dauby, a Belgian foundry

Dauby makes its handles to order in Belgium across two collections. Création du Fer, which includes this model, is made entirely from solid iron: each piece is cast in a sand mould and then finished by hand. It comes in three finishes: polished iron, black (aged iron) and waxed rust. Inspired by the latches of old farmhouses, its authentic designs suit both characterful homes and more contemporary, wood-led interiors. PURE, the other collection, uses these traditional techniques to create clean, Bauhaus-inspired lines in white bronze, raw bronze, raw metal or aged iron.

Care

The iron finishes are lacquered or varnished. No coating is completely scratch-resistant: a ring, a sharp object or everyday use will leave its mark — that is part of what gives the piece its character. If the black lacquer is damaged, it can be touched up in RAL 9005. The waxed rust finish is deliberately rough and textured: it should not be polished, but maintained with beeswax or petroleum jelly. Never use an abrasive cleaner.
