Dauby, a Belgian foundry

Dauby makes its handles to order in Belgium in two collections. Création du Fer, which includes this model, is made entirely from solid iron: each piece is cast in a sand mould, then finished by hand in one of three finishes: polished iron, black (aged iron) or waxed rust. Inspired by the latches of old farmhouses, its authentic designs suit characterful homes as well as more contemporary, wood-led interiors. PURE, the other collection, uses these traditional techniques to create clean lines inspired by the Bauhaus, in white bronze, raw bronze, raw metal or aged iron.

Care

The iron finishes are lacquered or varnished. No coating is completely scratch-resistant: a ring, a sharp object or everyday use will leave its mark – and that is what gives the piece its character. If the black lacquer is damaged, it can be touched up in RAL 9005. The waxed rust finish is deliberately rough and textured: do not polish it; maintain it with beeswax or petroleum jelly. Never use an abrasive cleaner.
