Demenico Cône by Urbi et Orbi, terrazzo wall hook

A concrete pebble on the wall, holding a coat, bag or towel. The cone-shaped Demenico wall hook comes from Urbi et Orbi in Athens: its studio designed it in 2018 after the rocks on Demenico’s stony shore, on the Mani coast, where the company’s founder was born. Black stones polished by the sea beneath white foam gave the hook its two colours.

Two cone sizes

• S — Ø 6 cm, 145 g: keys, tea towels, light bags, or a row of hooks in a hallway
• L — Ø 10 cm, 480 g: coats, bags, dressing gowns; a cone large enough to make a statement on its own

Alternate black and white, or mix the two sizes at different heights: the cones create a wall-mounted coat rack rather than a simple row of hooks.

Terrazzo: concrete with exposed aggregates

The wall hook is cast in terrazzo: concrete coloured throughout, with white or black aggregates embedded in it and exposed at the surface. The pattern varies from piece to piece. Small air holes on the surface are a characteristic of concrete, not a defect.

Care

Use a soft cloth, lukewarm water and a neutral detergent. Avoid acids, alkalis, solvents and chlorine. Concrete is hard, but it can break on impact, like ceramic.
