How to determine if the door is right-hand or left-hand?
HOW TO DETERMINE IF THE DOOR IS RIGHT-HAND OR LEFT-HAND - the eternal dilemma
How do you know if a chosen door is left-hand or right-hand? The nomenclature applies to both interior and exterior door leaves, which is a great simplification. Stand in front of a door so that you can open it towards you - this is the first reference point.
From this perspective, we consider that a left-hand door has hinges on the left and the handle on the right, whilst a right-hand door has hinges on the right and the handle on the left.
This is taken into account when fitting a house door because of:
-
- location of switches - light switches should be placed on the handle side to facilitate turning on the room's lights at the same time as opening;
-
- movement in the flat - if you are accustomed to approaching the door from the right side, it should be left-hand (i.e. the hinges are on the left and the handle on the right);
-
- your preferences - as a general rule, left-hand doors are installed, as they are more convenient for right-handed people; left-handed people find it easier to open right-hand doors;
- individual interior elements - for example, door leaves installed near stairs must ensure a stable position when opening.
When planning the door, the interior layout should be designed so that the leaves do not overlap or collide with each other when opening.
